Dear Friends and Supporters,
A Happy New year to you all. We trust that you had a Blessed Christmas. We had a wonderful time with family and friends but unfortunately are paying for it now. It is starvation rations this end.
A new worker
We start the new year with a lot of uncertainty what with wars and rumours of wars but until the Lord shows us anything different we plug on regardless. We already have some exciting developments which I will share with you for your prayerful concern.
During our conference in Thailand we met a deaf Australian lady. She is an amazing person. She is deaf but works as a lawyer. In her spare time, she began to learn Mandarin which is a tonal language and therefore quite difficult for a deaf person. Her love for the country in which she will serve, and the 70 million Deaf there has brought her to DMI and we will be supporting and encouraging her in her work there. She will be an associate with a Christian aid and development organisation in East Asia, and will initially undertake further language studies. If you would like to receive prayer letters and updates, please contact me directly.
Myanmar
The house in Myanmar
Towards the end of last year we brought before you the possibility of purchasing a property in Myanmar for our ministry needs there. We have been thrilled at the response with the first US$10,000 being received including a very large anonymous gift. We are about to pay the deposit. The only problem is we need to pay the rest of the money so still need another US$10,000 a month for the next 4 or 5 months. This on top of the US$20,000 a month we need for the basic needs is quite a tall order but with God all things are possible. We are praying for a miracle. The centre in Myanmar has to move again by the end of February so please pray hard.
Newsletter Format
Hope that you like the new format of the Update. Brent has been working on it as we were getting a bit tired of the old one which we have used for years. He is also trying to update our web page so little by little more is being added. Check it out: www.deafmin.org.
Africa
I am off again in February also leaving the 3rd to Africa. It has been about three years since I have been there and our people are feeling a bit neglected to say the least. I will be in Kenya, Uganda, South Africa and Tanzania and if at all possible Rwanda and Burundi. Trying to cover the latter two nations might be a bit more than I can cope with as I am only there for just under a month. Please pray for my ministry there and for Lill and the family back in Australia.
Lynne
Lynne our sponsorship coordinator is back in hospital again. She has a terrible time health-wise and has been in hospital a number of times over the last twelve months for asthma, hernia, spider bites and now a twisted bowel. Please pray for her that this cycle of attack will end and that she will be restored to full health.
God Bless,
Neville, Lill and family
