Farewell, Glenna Makela
Glenna Makela
Jerry & Glenna Makela are Dewayne Liebrandt’s step-dad and mom. They were married on April 14, 2000. During their years together, they contributed and helped Dewayne & Jackie in their ministry with DMI. Through their many years of involvement, they read and prayed for the people that Dewayne & Jackie worked with in Thailand and around the world.
Then in July 2009, that involvement took another step forward which changed four lives. That was when they met Pongsak Watcharasampunkul and William Mora on their America trip promoting DMI to churches all over the eastern US. While Pongsak and William were staying at Dewayne & Jackie’s home, Jerry & Glenna invited them to go bowling. William, Pongsak, Jerry, and Glenna began a friendship that was special from that time on. It was so special that when Jerry & Glenna heard that DMI was having a difficult time raising funds for Pongsak and William’s Bible College education, they called Dewayne & Jackie to say that THEY would donate 100% of the needed funds for their education. Jerry & Glenna truly had a special friendship with these young deaf men.
Just before Glenna passed away on February 13, 2010, she gave her approval for DMI to set up the “Glenna Makela Memorial Scholarship Fund”. This fund is set up to receive and disperse donations to help deaf young men on DMI fields go to Bible College to train to be ministers for the deaf around the world. It was her desire that through this Memorial Fund that many new deaf ministers would be trained to insure that deaf people in many countries would have the opportunity to know the Gospel of Jesus Christ just as her son, Dewayne, was doing. If that is a goal that you would like to see happen too, then please click on the link provided on this page to begin donating to provide Bible College training for some deaf young man. Thank you, and God bless!
